　　London wins the 2012 Olympic bid, defeating its rival Paris in the final round of votes. It is the first city to stage the Olympics for a third time.

 

　　IOC chief Jacques Rogge, in Singapore, made the announcement Wednesday night.

 

　　The British capital will become the first city to stage the Olympics for a third time after holding them in 1908 and 1948.

 

　　Paris, however, failed with three successive bids for the Games of 1992, 2008 and 2012.

　　Moscow, New York and Madrid were eliminated in the first three rounds.
